We deliver place-based, data-driven research designed to inform policy and
expand educational access across Alabama and the nation. In doing so, the EPC
provides the foundational insights necessary to drive economic development
and improve the quality of life for students in every community.

In 2016, place-based research from the UA-EPC
and MSU’s Stennis Institute informed a landmark
bipartisan vote to restore year-round Pell Grants.
Led by Senator Richard Shelby and Chairman
Thad Cochran, the Senate Appropriations
Committee approved the restoration in a
lopsided 29-1 vote, expanding educational
access for students across the nation.
